Locals have said the victim, a 35-year-old father of two young children is out of theatre but remains in intensive care at an undisclosed hospital.

Villagers were last night warned by police to remain indoors and keep windows and doors locked following the attack at around 6.50pm.

One 77-year-old villager said: “It’s just frightening, isn’t it. I don’t know what the country is coming to. it’s very quiet here normally. I’ve lived here 26 years and I’ve never seen anything like this.”

A local business owner said: “You hear that knife crime is getting bigger, but you don’t want it on your own doorstep. I’ve been told the chap is out of theatre now and in intensive care.”
