A man had been stabbed and left with life-threatening injuries following the incident that took place in Leicestershire.
Police and ambulance services were called to Lilac Way in East Goscote just before 19:00 BST on Sunday.
The 35-year-old man was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition, police said. No-one has yet been arrested.
The massive police operation involved two armed police response units that then sealed off Melton Road, East Goscote.
Not much information about the situation has been released as police investigations are still underway.
Locals have said the victim, a 35-year-old father of two young children is out of theatre but remains in intensive care at an undisclosed hospital.
Villagers were last night warned by police to remain indoors and keep windows and doors locked following the attack at around 6.50pm.
One 77-year-old villager said: “It’s just frightening, isn’t it. I don’t know what the country is coming to. it’s very quiet here normally. I’ve lived here 26 years and I’ve never seen anything like this.”
A local business owner said: “You hear that knife crime is getting bigger, but you don’t want it on your own doorstep. I’ve been told the chap is out of theatre now and in intensive care.”
