Gary Lineker is the controversial host of BBC’s Match of The Day. Lineker is paid £1.75 million per annum from the licence payer funded BBC as well as him having lucrative contracts with BT Sport and Walkers Crisps. He has now come out fully in support of a ‘mass mobilisation’ of remain voters for Saturday the 23rd of March for a mass rally in London.
He said:
Lots of people tell me I should stay out of the Brexit debate. ‘What’s it got to do with you?’ they say to me.
It would certainly be easier and a lot less hassle. But it wouldn’t be the right thing to do.
I care about this country. It’s the only one we’ve got and when I see it in great peril, I want to do what I can to help.
I’m not ashamed to be a patriot and neither should you be. And patriots don’t let their country fall over the cliff edge.”
The BBC have confirmed that political neutrality rules do not apply to Lineker stating:
“Gary is not involved in any news or political output for the BBC and as such any expression of his personal political views does not affect the BBC’s impartiality.”
