Murder probe launched after man shot DEAD in drive by carnage

Police have launched a murder probe after a 20-year-old man was blasted dead in a drive-by shooting on a leafy residential street.

Emergency services were called to Goosemoor Lane in the Erdington area of Birmingham at around 7.20pm on Thursday (8/8).

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was treated by paramedics but could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

West Midlands Police are now hunting the gunman who fired a shot from dark-coloured vehicle as it entered the road from neighbouring Gravelly Lane.

Detectives are examining CCTV and speaking to witnesses and are now urging anyone with information or dash-cam footage to get in touch.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Griffiths, from Force CID, said: “Another young man has been robbed of his life and his family left devastated by his loss. Officers are supporting them after such shocking news.

“This was a heinous act of violence and my team have worked through the night to secure evidence from the scene and fast-track our enquiries, but I need anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact us.

“We have extra officers in the area through today and into the weekend to offer reassurance to the local community.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We can confirm we received multiple 999 calls to reports of a shooting in Goosemoor Lane, Erdington, Birmingham at 7.23pm last night.

“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer responded to the scene along with police colleagues.

“Sadly, nothing could be done by ambulance staff to save a man, and he was confirmed dead on scene.”
