Reports are emerging that are alleging Her Majesty the Queen has voiced her reservations and frustrations with the current crop of politicians and has described their ‘inability to govern correctly’. Queen Elizabeth who is 93 years of age, remains neutral in public but a royal source has stated that her majesty has also stated a ‘disappointment in the current political class’. It should be noted that these comments were allegedly made in 2016 shortly after the resignation of the PM David Cameron. However, it is highly likely that these opinions would only have intensified in the ensuing period since that date.  

Scoops from the thought process directly from the royal family are particularly rare, especially from the Queen. Those royal aides that were present when the comments were made were said to be extremely surprised by her tone and certainty. The royal source has described the Queen as ‘really dismayed’. These developments need to be taken in the context of rumours emanating that the Queen could be directly involved in the lead-up to Britain’s supposed exit date from the EU on the 31st of October.

All sides of the Brexit debate have threatened to involve the Queen. PM Boris Johnson has not yet ruled out the proroguing of Parliament in order to force through a no deal. In addition to this the Socialist shadow chancellor John McDonnell said at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival that “I don’t want to drag the Queen into this, but I would be sending Jeremy Corbyn in a cab to Buckingham Palace to say we’re taking over”.  Some have accused Mr McDonnell of failing to grasp the Uk’s political constitutions, where since the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215 a form of British Parliament has effectively had political control. Furthermore, the reality is also that after Charles I had his head chopped off in the 17th Century, following the English Civil War, the head of state in the UK has remained strictly neutral AND ‘above politics’.
