Explosive footage has emerged that appears to show Guy Verhofstadt, the EU’s representative in the Brexit negotiations, stating that the current European Union is an “a la carte” Europe and is highly critical of the loosely tied European states. Mr Verhofstadt goes on to state that this has resulted in an “ineffective union”.
Mr Verhofstadt is a well-known European federalist; however, these comments appear to show a clear increase in the intensity of Mr Verhodstadt’s federalist feelings. Many on the remain side seem to criticise leave voters for not knowing the sort of Brexit they prefer. Some leave voters may counter-argue that there may now be multiple different forms of remaining in the EU on the table.
This footage also suggests that the head figures at the European Union do seem that Britain is going to leave the European Union. The following section of this footage states that as a result of Britain exiting the EU “it is time to get rid of the bureaucratic and complex system” of nations being sovereign. This is despite many people on the remain side of the debate repeatedly suggesting that ever closer union was not a possibility.
Amongst many other fillets to be taken from this footage is that Mr Verhofstadt believes that the current European Union is a failing process and project and likens the current systems of the EU being so loose that it is like “California uses another currency to the dollar”. He is likening the United States of America to European countries. Many leave voters will be extremely concerned by these comments.
Whilst it is extremely unlikely that this footage will make the mainstream media over the weekend. A recent article by UNN which appeared to show Mr Verhofstadt stating that he could buy votes for Mrs May’s withdrawal agreement did not get much time in the MSM. Many comments on this video on Twitter have been filled with rage. @BrionneCranlei1 stated on twitter “Real footage like this of Verhofstadt and von der Leyen needs to be shown EVERYWHERE until people who voted Remain can all have seen it. Most people deny any of these changes on foreign/defence/economic policy are in the pipeline. They simply don’t know the EU’s stated direction”.
