This has been a long road, a hard fought battle – I felt it important to record the most momentous occasion in modern British History – here is my story.
For me it all started on February 19th 2016 when I attended the launch of the Grassroots Out Campaign at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster.
Grassroots Out was a cross-party Leave organisation which included Nigel Farage (UKIP) Peter Bone & Tom Pursglove (Conservative), Kate Hoey (Labour) and George Galloway.
The message was positive and uplifting and I signed up immediately attending weekly street stalls and delivering leaflets to thousands of homes. It was a fantastic time I loved the buzz of meeting so many people so many Brexiteers happy to see us in their Town Centres coming over for a quick chat and a leaflet – many stating they had felt so alone due to the reporting bias of remainstream media. So many different nationalities thanking us for what we were doing and hoping that their country too could benefit when Britain left the European Union (you won’t hear that on the BBC)!
I will never forget the euphoria I felt on 23rd June 2016 when the result was announced by David Dimbleby his words etched forever in my memory “The British people have spoken we are out!” but none of us could have predicted what was to come.

What followed was a full-scale military operation to oppose and overturn Brexit – this included numerous Court cases, the overthrowing of historic parliamentary precedent under Speaker Bercow and his band of not so merry (men and women) culminating in the Surrender Bill which effectively took “no deal (WTO)” off the table – rushed through in a day by Oliver Letwin and Yvette Cooper.
The country watched in utter dismay and disbelief as Parliament openly opposed the Sovereign people’s decision in a show of brazen and unadulterated contempt.
We were forced back to the ballot box on 3 occasions the General Elections in 2017 and 2019 and bizarrely the European Elections – on each occasion the people voted overwhelmingly for parties respecting the democratic Referendum result. The British people would not be bullied, our voices would be heard and our vote respected.
Now fast forward to 31 January 2020 – the people did it – the time has arrived the Party is on and this has to be the best moment of all.
As my train pulls into Charing Cross at 6pm the excitement is overwhelming, as I walk down towards Trafalgar Square I see so many people wrapped in Union Jacks, men in Union Jack suits and ties, women including myself proudly adorned in red white and blue.
First Stop the Lord Moon, a huge Wetherspoons pub in Whitehall, there is security on the door and a queue to get inside – unbelievable. When I step inside it is amazing the pub is packed to the rafters the atmosphere jubilant, so many people singing, laughing and happy, all bound together by the moment – in the words of The Black Eyed Peas “tonight’s gonna be a good night”!
After an hour of merriment and singing it is time to head up to Parliament Square, along the way Government buildings are lit up in red white and blue, policemen on horseback clip clop past me.
Upon reaching Parliament Square there is a distinct carnival atmosphere, music fills the air and ladies on stilts adjourned in beautiful red white & blue outfits are handing out Happy Brexit Day Badges to the crowd which stretches out as far as the eye can see reportedly with between 5,000-6,000 people in attendance – even the rain does not dampen the spirits.
A huge screen and sound system is set up and ready to go.
9pm and the screen comes alive, people cheering and happy to be sharing in such a historic moment for our country (better late than never).

The speeches are broken up with signing such songs as Rule Britannia and a good band with a medley of dance tunes.
I mee some lovely ladies standing next to me wearing red, white and blue wigs and like myself adorned in union jack regalia waving our flags. As the music begins we start singing and dancing which attracts a number of camera crew who line up to take our photos we couldn’t see for the flashes before our eyes the sound of continuous cameras whirring – surreal.
The countdown is made during Nigel’s speech culminating in the 11 0’clock Big Ben Bong – unfortunately a recording but nevertheless a wonderful end to a very proud and historic evening – something that will remain with me forever.
It was a night of celebration for a hard fought battle – the war is not quite won as we enter the transition period with an embittered European Union but for now celebrate the moment and rejoice – well done Brexiteers.

I wrote my first article for Unity News Network on 30th December 2019, and I have been writing ever since – my library is now well in excess of 200 articles.
