Imperial College London agrees £5 million deal with Chinese tech firm Huawei

The British university that predicted 500,000 UK deaths of coronavirus, if Britain did not lock down has signed a deal with Chinese tech giant Huawei to build tech hub’s on its campus in London. Imperial College London has agreed a £5 million deal with Huawei, which will sponsor research projects, the construction of new tech facilities, as well as a 5G network for use at the college.

Imperial college have said “Like other UK universities, we have received support from Huawei for high-quality and open research for several years. Such funding is subject to our robust Relationship Review policies”.  The British government used the research and modelling conducted by KCL university to model its response to the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.

UNN’s David Clews brought you the revelations regarding the disgraced Imperial College Professor Neil Ferguson which saw him ousted from the government’s coronavirus response team. Professor Ferguson resigned from his post after it was revealed he was breaking the very lockdown measures his research called for amongst other allegations. 

Conservative MP Iain Duncan Smith has stated that that the deal between Huawei and Imperial College is symptomatic of an attempt by the powers that be in China to attempt to exert influence in the UK. Mr Duncan Smith has said : “This is a perfect example of how the Chinese strategy is to use their money to insert their influence in the world’s intellectual thought process. How ironic it is Imperial that is dealing with the fallout of Covid-19. This is a deeply worrying and dangerous relationship”.

A spokesman for Huawei has said: “We are pleased to be working with Imperial to explore how new technologies can bring economic and social value through collaboration”.
