President Trump commands arrest of anyone who vandalises or destroys any monument

The President of the US sanctioned for the arrest of anyone in America who vandalises statues as well as saying that he wants to see prison sentences of up to ten years when this crime is committed. This is the current maximum federal penalty and the President has said that an executive order would be used to supplement existing law.

President Trump has said : “We are looking at long-term jail sentences for these vandals and these hoodlums and these anarchists and agitators”. It is understood that President Trump decided to speak out as a result of Monday night’s failed attempt in Lafayette Park to bring down the statue of Andrew Jackson who is one of Trump’s favourite presidents.

He has promised executive action to protect monuments after some statues of, particularly Confederates and other historical figures, have been angrily brought down from parks and other places of public prominence. The President said via Twitter on Tuesday that : “I have authorized the Federal Government to arrest anyone who vandalizes or destroys any monument, statue or other such Federal property in the U.S. with up to 10 years in prison, per the Veteran’s Memorial Preservation Act, or such other laws that may be pertinent…”.

In addition to this, the President’s son has waded in on this debate via social media and comically tweeted “Want to save our monuments? Let’s get a movement going to replace any statue torn down during these riots with a new and more sturdy statue of @realDonaldTrump. The nonsense would stop instantly”.
