A court has been told that a former Conservative party MP chased a woman around his kitchen and stated: “I’m a naughty Tory” before sexually assaulting her whilst his wife was away. Charlie Elphicke was Dover’s MP between 2010 and 2019 before stepping down is in court charged with three counts of sexual assault.
The first charge concerns an incident in 2007 when Mr Elphicke is alleged to have invited a woman to his house for a drink. Jurors were today told that Mr Elphicke opened a bottle of wine and began asking her about her sexual preferences which included whether she liked “bondage and whips”. He is accused of leaning over to her with the semblance of filling up her wine glass before reaching to grope her right breast and trying to kiss her.
The prosecuting QC Eloise Marshall said: “She immediately shouted: ‘No!’ She was shocked. The whole incident was completely unexpected. He was chanting in a sing-song way: ‘I’m a naughty Tory, I’m a naughty Tory’, as though it was the school playground”.
The other two charges relate to a parliamentary staffer in her early 20s whom Elphicke is alleged to have sexually assaulted on two occasions in 2016. Whilst describing one of the alleged incidents, she said: “He fully came at me, pulled his body towards me. He had his mouth open, continually trying to kiss me”.
Mr Elphicke denies all three charges against him and attended Southwark Crown Court with his wife, successor and current MP for Dover Natalie Elphicke. The trial continues and UNN’s Oliver Down will keep UNN’s readers right up to date with developments.
