The leader of Brexit party Nigel Farage has forecasted that, despite the European Union putting on a united front during the Brexit trade talks he believes that the EU will collapse within the next 10 years, and even went as far as to list the three countries that could leave next.
Farage, who has been labelled by some as ‘Mr Brexit’ has said : “If we get Brexit half right then these institutions will not be here within ten years. If, in ten years, what we have achieved is a catalyst for change elsewhere then I will be absolutely delighted”. Mr Farage also accused the European Commission of putting preservation of the European project ahead of issues like workers’ rights in the Brexit talks.
Farage also said: “I really do not think the EU and its institutions will last” but did also say that he hopes the EU’s downfall will be “peaceful and sensible” as well as severe criticism for the Euro. He said that it “currently represents only 15 percent of global GDP and this figure is going to fall dramatically in the coming years”.
Mr Farage also offered his opinion on which countries would be net out of the EU exit door. He predicted Italy, Denmark and Poland could be next to exit. He said : “The way the Poles have been insulted by the EU is probably more than they can bear. A poll in Poland last year said, for the first time, that Poles believe the EU has a negative effect on their lives. Of course, Denmark didn’t join in the first wave of enlargement and has always opted out of the euro and arrest warrant. I also think that the next financial crisis will be too much for Italy to bear”.
