Two teens jailed after barbaric murder of factory worker who they attempted to behead with a samurai sword

A court has been told by a widow of a father-of-two that his drug-addicted killers ‘do not deserve a place in society’. This came as the pair of perpetrators were jailed for life for hacking a man 100 times with a samurai sword in an attempt to cut his head off.

Kiyran Earnshaw who is 18 and Luke Gaukroger 16 were confronted by Robert Wilson when they trespassed outside Wilson’s work. After a short discussion, Earnshaw then reached into his jogging bottoms and pulled out a 20inch sword that he used to murder Mr Wilson. The court was told that Earnshaw then passed it to his young accomplice Gaukroger before both began trying to decapitate their helpless victim.

The judge at Leeds Crown Court sentenced Earnshaw to a minimum term of 22 years and Gaukroger to 16 years and eight months.

Robert Wilson’s wife Elaine paid tribute to her ‘much-loved husband, stepfather, brother, uncle, and friend’ as well as adding: ‘The hardest part of losing Robert has been the manner in which he lost his life. That he had such a horrific death has been hard to bear for us. We have tried to look for positives and are thankful that it was only one life that was taken, it could quite easily have been more. We are just so glad that these youths are now off our streets as they obviously have no regard for anyone. To do what they did is incomprehensible to any “normal” human being and they do not deserve a place in society’.
