The current Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton is set to face an FIA investigation after he wore a t-shirt with ‘Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor’. This t-shirt references an incident in America where a woman was shot after her boyfriend opened fire on police at their home on the 13th of March this year.
Mr Hamilton could be fined by the FIA for sporting this t-shirt as the FIA statues forbid political statements of any kind. Formula One’s owners Liberty Media have previously backed Hamilton in his anti-racism fight.
Hamilton took victory in Mugello on Sunday which saw him rack up his 90th in his Formula One career and he the shirt during the ‘taking a knee’ ceremony prior to the race and on the podium as God Save the Queen played to celebrate his win.

Having also worn the shirt on the grid prior to the race Hamilton paid tribute to Breonna Taylor in his post-race interview. He said ‘It was like three races in one day, incredibly tough. We had a difficult start. Keeping that over one-second gap was crucial as I didn’t want them [race rivals] to have DRS on that 1000m straight. Justice for Breonna Taylor’.
Hamilton’s actions have caused quite a stir on social media. One Twitter user @LenzKappov said “I followed F1 since Belgium 1978. Yes folks, 41 years. But Lewis Hamilton has single-handedly RUINED F1 for me (& I suspect others) by bringing his nasty, offensive brand of politics into it. I hate him. I don’t watch F1 anymore”. Another said “Hamilton has always been a difficult person to like but I always thought he deserved credit for an amazing achievement of six world championships. His recent virtue signalling behaviour has just become intolerable. I can’t be bothered with him or Formula 1 any more”.
