A 13-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attacking three teachers at a school in Southampton.
Police were called to Redbridge Community School just after 11:30 BST on Thursday following reports of assaults.
The school later messaged parents to say it had been put into temporary lockdown as a precaution due to an “unforeseen emergency”.
It said normal school business had since resumed.
Worried parents discussed the alert on social media with some speculating a knife had been involved but police said that was not true.
Head teacher Jason Ashley criticised police for not treating the incident as urgent saying:
“We made six or seven phone calls to 999 and were told we were not a priority. Several of our staff were assaulted. It took an hour and a quarter for the police to arrive.”
A Spokesperson for Hampshire Police said:
“The call came to us at 11.38am today, and officers were at the school by 12.20pm.
I know that officers in the area were already deployed on other incidents when the call first came in.
It was reported that a student assaulted three teachers. No weapon was used. Officers attended and later arrested a 13-year-old boy on suspicion of three assaults.”
