Innocent woman gunned down during ‘mass gang brawl’ that broke out in East London

An innocent woman is fighting for her life after being caught in the crossfire as a mass gang brawl broke out in East London.

The 32-year-old woman was shot in the chest on Westgate street in Hackney at around 9pm on the 22^nd of November 2020.

She is in a critical but stable condition in hospital with her family at her bedside.

Witnesses said they believe the victim had been outside a pub she was mistakenly shot, it was first believed she was queuing outside Cat & Mutton pub however the pub was closed at the time.

Shop owner Hidir Aslan told The Sun Online: “She was totally innocent.

“She was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

A group of men had gathered outside the London Fields Express grocery store when the violence erupted with “two or three” shots being discharged.

One man, who asked not to be named, said: “I was in the shop about five minutes before and there was about a dozen of them outside acting very aggressive.

“They were asking me as I went in ‘who are you?’, ‘what’s your name?’ and acting like they were looking for someone.

“To be fair the guys at the shop were trying to move them on but they were ignoring them. About five minutes later I heard the shots.”

Detective Inspector Matt Webb, said: “I am urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Westgate Street last night to come forward and speak with us.

“We have been told that the area was busy at the time of the shooting, and I am confident that someone has information that will help our investigation.

“At this early stage, we believe that the victim was an innocent bystander. I need your help to establish the events leading up to the shooting. Please make that call.”

No arrests have yet been made in connection to the incident, Trident detectives from Specialist Crime North are investigating.
