It has emerged that Prince Andrew’s spokeswoman has refused to confirm or deny a report that the duke stayed at the New York mansion of the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in April 2001. This is despite Andrew denying these reports in his now infamous Newsnight interview.
The refusal to repeat the denial comes against the backdrop of the Daily Mail uncovering and reporting a fax that says that the prince had stayed at a “private address in New York” on the 11th of April and its sources claiming that the address was Epstein’s £60m valued home in Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
These reports directly contradict Prince Andrew’s account of his movements that day in his Newsnight interview when he said: “I wasn’t staying there. I may have visited but definitely didn’t, definitely, definitely no, no, no activity”.
Virginia Roberts, who was 17 at that time has made allegations that Epstein flew her to New York to have sex with Prince Andrew, which he denies. The Mail is reporting that it has uncovered an itinerary of a three-day trip to the US that April, which includes three hours of “private time” on the afternoon of 11 April.
When asked to comment on the latest reports the spokeswoman for Prince Andrew said: “We are not issuing any comment. Nothing at all”. When asked if the prince was planned to take any legal action against the Daily Mail regarding these latest reports the spokeswomen said: “As I have said, there is no comment from us”.
