UNN’s Oliver Down has learnt that the UK government has been undertaking secret trials of Covid passports at a hospital in Kettering as well as at Heathrow airport. An NHSX document has revealed that the first domestic trial of “COVID Status Certification” began on the 19th of April at Kettering General Hospital. The trial featured 12 members of staff members and ran over a period of four days.
In addition to this, a separate trial has also taken place at Heathrow airport. UNN’s Oliver Down also understands that the events research programme ran by DCMS, that had run recent trials regarding the safe return of sports fans are not controlling this trial.
However, DCMS has confirmed this story. They have said: “Use of the NHS App is being considered as part of the digital route, and Kettering General Hospital tested this potential technology”. DCMS has confirmed all of the details set out in this story including that the inclusion of just 12 members of staff was supposedly to allow NHSX to test the certificates. The reasoning given for this was that it was done “in a lower profile setting and at a scale appropriate for the stage of the programme”. They have also stated trial attempted to replicate the “experience of using status certification to enter a venue” by allowing the government to: “start to test data feeds, points of contact, user experience, user research and live feedback”.
