Boys will be girls
Stonewall, the organisation that stands ‘for all lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, questioning and ace (LBGTQ+) people’ (thinks: have I left anyone out?) has struck yet another blow for stupidity. Not content with repurposing mothers as ‘people who give birth’, they now advocate that the terms ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ ought not to be used at school on the basis that they are exclusive. Stonewall propose the generic term ‘learners’ should be used as an alternative.
I thought Stonewall would have learned its lesson after losing some serious funders following the othering of mothering debacle, but no. They continue to draw up insane guidelines and in the latest batch of insanity they have also suggested mixed-sex sport and PE classes in schools. Well good luck with that. Maybe it is just my imagination, but can you imagine the way girls would be treated in a mixed rugby scrum? They would be groped and grabbed by adolescent boys who—if my memory serves me well—have one major occupation: wondering about the contents of girls’ underwear. The last thing they need is a legitimate excuse to find out.
The very idea of trying to promote equality or inclusiveness on the basis of biological sex in sport is utter madness. There is no conceivable way in which men can compete alongside women fairly. Men are bigger, stronger, faster and inevitably more brutal. Mixed teams would simply see the men competing against one another and the women being mainly redundant. There is a reason one of the only physical sports where men and women compete together is mixed doubles tennis; it is because the two sides are separated by a net. Even Stonewall cannot have considered that boys ought to compete against girls. If they did then they need to reflect on the thrashing meted out to the USA women’s world champion football team in 2017 by an under 15s boys side.
It seems this gender-neutral nonsense is infectious. A leading £26,000 a year girls’ school—St Paul’s Girls’ School in Hammersmith—is considering dropping the use of the term ‘Head Girl’ with the aim of being more inclusive. More inclusive of whom? This is an all-girls’ school and the clue as to the gender of the pupils is in the name of the school…girls’! If people are prepared to part with over £20,000 annually for their girls to be exposed to this kind of treatment, then more fools them. In any case, surely the school should have been renamed St Paula’s years ago.
Where does it all end? If the Royal Highnesses of Wokingham are to be believed people are obsessed with what colour a baby will be. But they are wrong, apart from wishing that a baby is born healthy the only other thing on parents’ minds is the sex of the baby. Otherwise, why would so many couples try to find out in advance? If Stonewall have their way it would, presumably, be an offence to ask a couple with a new baby whether it was a boy or a girl. They would probably have to answer along the lines of ‘can’t say but it does have a wee winkie’ or not as the case may be. I am ever more convinced that I am no longer of this world.
