Secretary of State for Health and Social Care
We write to congratulate you for some of the opinions you gave in your article in the Mail on Sunday on 4th July 2021, and also to ask you to reconsider some major aspects of government policy which we disagree with.
With regard to your comments that:
We have to take a broad and balanced view. We are going to have to learn to accept the existence of Covid and find ways to cope with it- just as we already do with the flu.”
-This view we have supported since the start of the covid-19 crisis, and we have given medically evidenced reasons against the lockdown policies since March 23rd 2020, when your government introduced them.
It has always been obvious that lockdowns were an untenable course of action to take, and it is a tragedy for the nation that it has taken the government so long to accept this reality.
Of course Sweden was one of the countries which did not go into lockdown and their covid-19 related death rate has been hundreds per million below that of the UK, with none of the lockdowns disadvantages.
We are pleased that you recognise the economic arguments for opening up society again, and also equally pleased that you recognise the many health and social arguments for ending lockdowns too.
The whole consensus of the freedom from lockdowns movement has been stating all these valid points from the very beginning when we warned of the dire consequences of lockdowns.
We can only be thankful that the government appears to accept that no further damage should be inflicted on our nation and that an exit out of the disastrous lockdown restrictions is underway.
We remind you of the Great Barrington Declaration signed by thousands of medical, scientific and other professionals, which was delivered to the government last summer, but effectively ignored.
This offered a constructive alternative to lockdown policies, including policies such as “Focussed Protection,” which, in hindsight, it would have been better if the government had paid more attention to.
The lack of preparedness to consider other options to deal with the covid-19 crisis was not helped by the government’s decision to use their new emergency powers to institute a policy of fear amongst the whole UK population, involving virtually all the mainstream media.
This has resulted in an healthy stifling of debate on covid-19 issues to the extent that only the “government’s” views were acceptable and anything else has been effectively “no platformed.”
If the media had not been so constrained and if we had had the free media we are accustomed to, the mistakes the government have made would not have taken so long to be accepted.
We now request that you agree to meet with medical and other professionals from the freedom from lockdowns movement so that you and your Department can have a more balanced perspective in order that more logical and proportionate decisions can be made.
We also ask that those at all levels who are employed by the NHS are not penalised for speaking up on their concerns about the government’s covid-19 policies.
Your appointment could be an opportunity for the government to “ build back better” its relationship with the many British citizens who have lost confidence in the government itself. The last two by-election results shows there is great dissatisfaction, not just with the government, but with the official Labour opposition, who are viewed by many as government lockdown supporters offering no constructive alternatives.
The covid-19 lockdowns policy of the government has never had democratic endorsement from the British electorate. The government’s policy therefore has never had any form of consent from the public.
In Switzerland this was recognised and the people managed to secure a national referendum on June 13th of this year on whether to endorse their government’s policy or not.
Although the government confused the public by having four other referenda on the same day and managed to control the media agenda, nearly 40% of the public voted against the government’s covid-19 policy.
We suggest that the reason the UK government has not sought a national referendum on this issue, is that they would have been unprepared to take the risk that they would have secured the democratic approval they needed.
On 26th June this year there were about 1.6 million people marching in London for an end to lockdowns and related matters. Such expressions of opinions can be ignored, or they can be accepted, and something be done to rectify the situation of lack of trust by so many people.
One of the key areas of distrust has been caused by the government’s gross abuse of emergency powers against its own citizens, and curtailments of freedom of speech and assembly.
This is one of the key reasons we ask you to use your influence to persuade the government to repeal the Coronavirus Act without delay.
This Friday 9th July we will have a delegation visiting your local constituency office from 11.30 a.m. onwards.
We would be most grateful to have a few minutes of your time on this occasion.
In addition to the points already made, we ask you to consider the following regarding recent government announcements:
It is intended to remove the requirement for mandatory face masks from July 19th.
We welcome this and point out it was supposed to happen a month ago and should never have happened in the first place. It should always have been voluntary.
Restaurants, shops and pubs will no longer have to ask customers for their personal data.

The school “bubbles” system that has seen hundreds of thousands of pupils being forced to self- isolate at home will be axed and replaced with daily testing.

As for the daily testing, it is not only unnecessary, not only a complete waste of public money, it is a violation of the health rights of pupils and parents. We ask you to use your influence to ensure that this proposed testing never starts.
On the issue of testing, we are in favour of people being able to have tests if they feel the need to have them
( something very difficult to obtain at the beginning of this crisis), but there is no necessity for costly and pointless mass testing for a virus which is not a serious threat to the overwhelming majority of the population.
We do support anti- body testing for those who want it, but this is something which mysteriously is not easy to obtain.
Social Distancing: The Prime Minister is due to give some details on this policy sometime this week.
Our view has always been it should be up to individuals to use their own common sense on such matters and there should be no compulsion .
The Prime Minister has said that he is determined that fully vaccinated Britons will be able to travel to amber list countries including Spain and Greece without having to self-isolate when they return.
We ask you to use your influence to bring about the abolition of the nonsensical and illogical “traffic lights” system, and the quarantine system, which the government has set up, and return to freedom of individual choice as to where people decide they wish to travel to.
The policy announcement by the Prime Minister is not only discriminatory, it is not based on any proven medical evidence. It appears that this policy of coercing mass covid -19 vaccinations only benefits the big pharmaceutical companies who have too close relations with those in government. We are very much hoping that you will demonstrate that you are not in that category.
Those who have received two doses of the covid-19 vaccines will not be required to self-isolate or to take covid-19 tests if they are alerted that they have come into contact with someone with the virus
We ask you to oppose this as it is discriminatory and not based on proven medical evidence.
It is also entirely disproportionate because someone “who has the virus” is simply someone who has tested positive for covid-19, and there is no need for people to self-isolate unless the circumstances are exceptional.
The government has claimed their changed measures from 19th July will make the UK the most open country in Europe.
This is simply not true as Sweden and Belarus are more open.
As for the world, there are countless countries more open than the UK.
It is this sort of misinformation propaganda which many people are fed up with.
The government claims that “Britain’s world beating vaccination programme” is responsible for the covid-19 threat being diminished.
The only point about this statement which is true is that Britain has given a huge proportion of its citizens covid-19 vaccines:
As of 3rd July 2021:
45,135,880 ( 85.7% of UK adults) have had a first dose
33,402,028 ( 63.4% of UK adults) have had a second dose
The facts are that those covid-19 vaccinated have not been given informed decision making and have been coerced by one means or another to be jabbed.
We ask you to change procedures so that all citizens are treated with respect and given full information, and not treated like they are in a factory assembly line.
The government is making a serious health and safety error by not following up every single jab given, as these covid-19 vaccines are effectively experimental, having only been given MHRA approval for emergency use.
The government has gone too far in its interpretation of the definition of emergency use.
The MHRA Yellow card voluntary reporting scheme is totally inadequate, as it receives only between 3 and 6 reports back per 1000, depending on the area. But even with that, there have been approximately 2000 reported deaths and hundreds of thousands of instances of serious and minor harm caused.
We ask you to put these points right.
The government cannot escape the fact that those countries which have had a much less or limited covid-19 vaccination programme, are performing better in respect of having much less covid-19 related deaths and serious illness.
The government needs to start being honest and stop claiming that the covid-19 vaccination programme is responsible for reducing covid-19 related deaths, when they were going down anyway.
It is also an undeniable fact that the many countries in the world which never had lockdowns, have performed much better that the lockdown countries in having much lower covid-19 related death rates and serious illness.
We have a government which has created a deliberate climate of fear amongst its own citizens and as part of that has used its emergency powers to muzzle the media to be on their side.
As stated, we believe that the coronavirus act, due to be reviewed in September, needs to be immediately repealed, as it is the source of the excessive abuse of power by the government.
Such abuse must end immediately.
