Nearly two weeks have passed since the world once again was spun on it’s head and things continue to be as febrile as ever. The propaganda and rhetoric on ALL SIDES is completely out of control and pulling people in so many directions. After my last email blast I was accused of being both a Hamas Apologist/ Baby Killer supporter and then also a Zionist Shill! From a purely objective perspective it cannot be denied that both sides have legitimate grievances.
If you are a Palestinian you would say you have seen your homeland stolen from you, have to live in abject poverty, subject to humiliating checkpoints and searches and in many instances being shot or killed by the Israeli Forces.
If you are an Israeli you would say why should we have to live next to people that want to kill us with rockets and terror attacks? We tried to give them a state and for peace and they voted for Hamas. Why shouldn’t we do whatever it takes to defend our people?
As with Covid, then Ukraine and now conflict in the Middle East the people who always suffer the most are just the everyday people trying to go about living their lives. As a Peace Activist I often wonder where we would be as a world if we spent even half as much as do on weapons of war.
As a Peace Activist it is also important to be honest about the world we live in, multi-culturalism has failed completely and we now see these tensions manifesting across the country. It really is important that we have honest conversations around these issues as best as we can.
