Robin Horsfall Leader of the Veterans’ and People’s Party talks about knife crime,

I’ve been watching the news about knife crime. What a load of drivel. Get a tough guy or an actor and ask him what the solution is. How would he know?

The media get an interview with masked thugs who are proud of carrying knifes and make them feel important. This encourages copycats crimes.

Weak people carry knives because knives make them feel powerful. They like feeling powerful. They enjoy hurting people who offend them. They respect powerful intervention not compassion.

The main problem is they are not frightened of getting caught nor of punishment.

To take away their power there must be a greater power. The police have been emasculated by laws designed to ‘protect the public’. Historically the police are responsible for these restrictions, mistakes made in the past took away public trust.

The police are now so restricted in what they can do to arrest a dangerous person it takes four of them to handcuff one person. The police are no longer allowed to handle violent people swiftly and effectively. Any technique that would work short of a Taser is unacceptable (and a Taser isn’t that fast).

People want the police to come down hard on knife carriers. They can’t. The law won’t let them.

Carrying a knife should be regarded as an intent to kill. Self-defence is not acceptable as a  reason in law to carry a knife.

Anyone aggressively wielding a knife is threatening life and it should be acceptable to use lethal force to stop them.

Increase ‘stop and search’ powers and focus them hard on affected areas. Make it very risky to carry a knife.

Mandatory ‘hard time’ prison sentences for carrying a knife without just cause.

Educate the public of the benefits of hard policing in bad areas.

Searching for knives should be seen in the same way as a pre-flight search.

Use famous people from sport to promote the ‘education’.

We need greater numbers of tougher police officers who can handle themselves and the right to use ‘strike and restrain’ methods.

Power only retreats from a greater power!
