Police in Birmingham have launched a massive manhunt after masked men tried to snatch two screaming schoolgirls in broad daylight.
The girls had been on their way home from school along Station Road, Acocks Green on Friday (May 3) when the nightmare incident took place. Two men approached the girls in the street and tried to pull them away according to the Police. They screamed for help and thankfully a passer-by came to their aid. Officers are now looking through CCTV images and desperately trying to trace the men.
The two men were believed to have come from a white van that driving along Station Road in a suspicious manner. They two girls told police the men both had their faces covered. They believed they spoke in a foreign language. After a passer-by ran to the screaming girls’ aid, the men ran off in the direction of Warwick Road. But there was no further description of the men given at this time.
According to reports in the local Birmingham Mail many parents have said they are now too afraid for their children to walk alone to school now even during daytime with reports of other abduction attempts.
Detective Inspector Kiteley of West Midlands Police said:
“I’d ask children and parents alike to remain vigilant, be aware of their personal safety and to report any suspicious incidents to the police. We understand incidents like this are a cause for concern. I’d like to assure the local community that we’re increasing patrols and liaising with local schools to make sure people feel safe.
This was a disturbing incident involving two young girls and we are making enquiries to trace the white van and the two men. I’m also hoping to find the man who helped the girls and scared away their attackers. His information may prove vital to the ongoing investigation.”
