Huawei 5g deal threatens to RIP APART UK/US special relationship

We have been covering the fallout from the Gavin Williamson sacking over the apparent Huawei leak. A full investigation was done into the leak and the Police confirmed that no criminality was involved. There have been a number of theories around Theresa May’s swift sacking of Williamson with some suggesting as Defence Secretary he knew too much about the EU Army integration of the UK’s Armed Forces. Others have suggested it was due to him being a strong Brexiteer in the cabinet

Now on a visit to the UK US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has urged the UK to prioritise its security interests and those of its allies when dealing with Chinese firm Huawei.

Speaking in London, he said the US had “made its views well known” on Huawei’s potential role in the UK’s 5G network. He said the US must protect its UK operations from “security risks” and ensure data partners were “trusted”. Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said the UK would never “compromise” its ability to share intelligence with the US. but it appears that this did very little to allay the fears of those in Washington.

Hunt insisted that ministers were still “considering the evidence” around the deal and that no decision had been made. There has even been talk within the Trump administration that if the UK proceeds with this deal it should be kicked out of the ‘Five Eyes’ security alliance between all the major English speaking Western Alliances.

The media storm blew up in the USA after reports suggesting a decision had been taken in principle to award Huawei contracts for non-core elements of the new network.

The Trump administration regards Huawei as an arm of the Chinese Communist Party and that it is being used a vehicle to spy on foreign countries. They have said that under no circumstances should Huawei be allowed to do any major business in the USA.

Secretary Pompeo told reporters:

“We cannot let China peddle corrupt infrastructure deals in return for political influence and to be equally vigilant and vocal against those other Chinese activities which undermine the sovereignty of all nations”.

I am confident that each of our two nations will choose the path to ensure the security of our networks. We are making our views very well known.

The US has an obligation to ensure the places where we operate, places where US information is, places where we have national security risks, that they operate within trusted networks and that is what we will do.”

Analysis-

Not only is Theresa May selling out the UK on Brexit she is selling us out on our infrastructure projects as well. Her Government continues with the white elephant that is HS2 whilst this issue about allowing our mobile network to be built by a quasi state owned Chinese company is frightening. The Tory party have considerable links with the Chinese Government as does Theresa May’s husband in his role as an advisor to a variety of multi-nationals.

Our biggest and closest ally led by the fearless President Trump has told us blatantly not to allow Huawei to proceed with this contract yet they appear to be the Government’s favoured option. Is this Theresa May trying to stand up to President Trump especially in light of Joe Biden saying she sought his reassurance over the Trump presidency? With President Trump visiting the UK in the next few weeks lets hope he continues to up the pressure on May and under no circumstances should Huawei be allowed anywhere near this deal.
