A man has died in hospital after being shot in an inner-city area of Wolverhampton. Not many details have been released of the incident. What is known so far is that Police were called to Valley Road, Park Village, after gunshots were heard at about 21:10 BST on Friday.
Minutes later, officers said they were made aware of a man with serious injuries who had been driven to nearby New Cross Hospital. He died at 02:00 BST on Saturday, police said. The victim has not yet been formally identified.
His family is being supported by Police officers. Police officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries to gather as much information from local residents as possible. Of course Wolverhampton is one of the most ‘ethnically diverse’ areas of the UK and also has one of the highest crime rates in the UK.
Police also launched an online appeal on Twitter.
Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust posted on social media on Friday evening to reassure patients and family members.
A spokesman said: “At approx. 9.30pm tonight a man was brought in to the Emergency Department at New Cross Hospital with a gunshot wound, There were no gunshots fired at New Cross Hospital. The hospital is functioning as normal.”

This latest bloodshed comes as offences involving knives or sharp instruments have risen substantially and went up by 16% to 40,147, according to police-recorded crimes for the year to March published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The total number of homicides – murder and manslaughter – rose 12% by 74 to 701 in the period, when stripping out exceptional incidents with multiple victims such as the terrorist attacks in London and Manchester.
Gun crime rose but at a less pronounced rate than knife crime with a 2% rise to 6,492 offences in the period. The main reason for the huge rises is because of Sadiq Khan’s London.
Caroline Youell, crime statistics and analysis at the ONS, said:
Most people don’t experience crime. Today’s figures show a fairly stable picture in England and Wales for most crime types. It is too early to say if this is a change to the long-term declining trend.
There have been increases in some lower-volume ‘high-harm’ offences such as homicide and knife crime, consistent with rises over the past three years. However, the latest rise in gun crime is much smaller than previously seen.
We have also seen continued increases in some theft offences such as vehicle-related theft and burglary, while computer viruses have fallen.”
It could be seen that both Theresa May and Sadiq Khan have a hand in this. They have both presided over open-borders policies whilst both were against stop and search tactics. While as Home Secretary May cut Police Numbers and Khan has also prioritised other initiatives such as tackling hate crime and green projects over Policing.
