A man has appeared in court and has pleaded guilty to assaulting emergency workers, following an incident where the man spat blood into the faces of police officers whilst shouting exclamations regarding the coronavirus. The spray of blood and saliva that came from Samuel Konneh who is 38 went into the mouth of one policeman whilst another’s face was covered in blood and saliva.
Four officers went to arrest Konneh. Mr Konneh yesterday pled guilty during a brief hearing held via Skype at Manchester Crown Court to four counts of assault on an emergency worker as well as a single count of stalking on March 26.
The Judge on the case was Tony Cross QC, told the defendant via video link who is being held in HMP Forest Bank that he will be sentenced on June the 29th. This will be following the preparation of a psychiatric and a pre-sentencing report.
At a previous hearing, a court was told that Mr Konneh was arrested just days after the UK went into lockdown. He had been stalking a woman who rebuffed his advances, and this is why the police were called to an address in south Manchester.
As part of the police breaking down the door it hit Mr Konneh who was stood behind it, in the mouth, which caused him to bleed. This was when he spat at the officers. Whilst this was going on Mr Konneh was shouting about the coronavirus.
Judge Cross told the defendant that when sentencing occurs on the 29th of June “All sentencing options are open to the sentencing judge”.
