What is the Dublin III Regulation and how could it be affected by Brexit?
Following record numbers of at least eight boats carrying 145 suspected illegal immigrants being stopped on Friday, with a further 82 were intercepted on Saturday I thought it would be beneficial to look into the reasons why so many come to the United Kingdom and rarely seem to be subjected to being sent back to the nation they entered the UK from.
The Home Office confirmed a record number of people crossed in a single day, those picked up by Border Force officials said they were Iranian, Iraqi, Kuwaiti, Syrian and Afghan nationals but why are they more often than not allowed to stay in the United Kingdom despite breaking the law to touch British soil?
The answer may sit within the Dublin III Regulation, as I did some research into the British Parliament’s online Commons library into this regulation I started to see just why it could pose a serious issue for HM’s government at this moment in time.
