The former footballer and Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier has confirmed via Twitter that he is set to review whether he will continue to wear a Black Lives Matter badge on air after being accused of promoting a ‘far left ideology’ by a fellow twitter user.
UNN’s Oliver Down understands that Le Tissier has already held talks with bosses at Sky over the wearing a Black Lives Matter badge while he is on air, as all pundits have done since the return of football post lockdown.
In addition to this, another former professional footballer Karl Henry has stated that a centrist, inclusive and politically neutral anti-racism movement is needed.
Every game since the Premier League restart has seen all 22 players on the field take the knee in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Mr Le Tissier’s twitter exchange began with when he tweeted asking those that are “far left or far right” to unfollow him, which sparked the exchange. One twitter user replied to that tweet asking : “If you are central Matt why wear a badge promoting a far-left ideology?”. To this Mr Le Tissier, who is 51 responded: “That’s a good point and one which I’ve made to my boss already”.
In response to a further tweet Le Tissier posted: “I am reviewing.” Sky Sports have confirmed that Le Tissier has approached them over wearing the badge in terms of a “discussion point” and they have told the pundit, who won eight caps for England between 1994 and 1997, that he is under no obligation to wear the pin badge.
