‘All these anti-vaxxers’ are ‘nuts’, Boris Johnson claims, as he wants ‘everybody’ to get vaccinated

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called those British citizens who are opposed to vaccinations as “nuts” as the British government expands this winter’s flu jab capacity from 15 million to 30 million. The British PM has he urged the public to use this expanded flu jab programme as a mechanism of easing the pressure on the NHS if there is a second wave of coronavirus this winter.

Whilst on a visit to a doctor’s surgery in east London Prime Minister told staff: “There’s all these anti-vaxxers now. They are nuts, they are nuts”. The thinking of the government is that a potential rise in Covid-19 infections needs to be offset with an increase in winter flu jabs. The usual winter programme of free flu vaccinations is expected to be expanded to everyone over 50.

Prime Minister Johnson said that this plan would provide immunisation for  “a very, very significant proportion of the population”.

Mr Johnson went on to say  “We want everybody to get a flu jab in the run-up to this winter. We’re aiming first of all for school children up to year seven, for pregnant women, for people over 65, people who have been shielded. But then we’ll be extending it to people from 50 to 65. The reason for doing this is to protect the NHS in the winter months because, obviously, we’ve still got Covid – we’ve still got the threat of a second spike of Covid, and it’s vital therefore to keep that pressure off the NHS by everybody getting a flu jab, and I really hope everybody will”.

UNN’s Oliver Down understands that currently, the government does not plan to make any vaccinations compulsory.

However, Prime Minister Johnson has said, about the coronavirus, “Whether it came from a bat, a pangolin or however it emerged, it was a very, very nasty thing for the human race. And I think by the middle of next year we will be well on the way past it”.
