The former New York mayor, who saw the city’s murder rate plummet by 65 per cent under his watch has told London mayor Sadiq Khan: “Stop attacking Donald Trump and just do your job.” Giuliani, 74, was mayor of New York between 1994 and 2002.
Mr Giuliani delivered the clear and firm message “from one mayor to another” and told the London leader he should spend more time dealing with crime and less worrying about the US President’s visit.
The comments come after Khan gave permission for a large inflatable blimp that shows the President as a baby in a nappy, it is set to fly above Parliament during the President’s visit.
A public backlash also followed suit with a fundraiser to get a giant baby Khan balloon to fly over London hitting well over its first target of £10,000. Within a few days it is currently sitting at well over £37,000.
Mr Giuliani said: “Sadiq Khan should be ashamed of himself. He’s so busy attacking President Trump’s visit and, in the meantime, crime is spiralling in London. Maybe he should just do his job instead of attacking a world leader.”
London under Khan, 47, has seen its murder rate exceed New York’s, growing by 44 per cent over the past 12 months alone.
Former Mayor Giuliani, who is now President Trump’s lawyer, accused Khan of spending too much time politicising and not enough time dealing with the city’s huge and growing problems.
More than two million US tourists visit London each year and Giuliani warned that Khan is putting the industry at risk, this could cost billions of pounds in tourist revenue.
He said: “Many people who come to London are Americans. More than half of us in the US now support the President and even those who don’t support him, support his office.
“I would not like to go to a country where someone with the authority of a mayor was rallying people against them. It’s highly inappropriate. He’s probably suffering from some of the criticisms that President Trump has made of him, which are valid.”
It is not the first time the Ex New York mayor has slammed Khan, he has previously said that Sadiq Khan should be“ashamed of himself” for criticising the US president.
He added: “The Mayor of London is rallying against the president of the United States? He should be ashamed of himself. Maybe he should do his job rather than attack a world leader.”
