A man who stabbed and killed an armed robber at his address has been jailed for five years. The robber who came armed with a knife turned up to Patrick Phinn’s house at his house demanding money.
Patrick Phinn who is 49, stabbed Ronald Pattison 17 times at his home address in Easterhouse, Glasgow back in September 2018. The High Court in Glasgow heard Mr Phinn’s trial and was told that Ronald Pattinson attended Mr Phinn’s house with a knife and threatened to kill Mr Phinn and his partner.
Following this, a fight broke out and Mr Phinn grabbed a knife which he then used to stab Pattison. Mr Phinn was initially charged by the CPS of murder. However, this week a jury found him guilty of the reduced charge of culpable homicide.
When delivering the verdict justice Lord Matthews told Mr Phinn: “It is difficult to think of circumstances where provocation is more appropriate than this. This was extreme in the circumstances”. However, Lord Matthews stated before sentencing him to five years in prison “the jury was satisfied that you went beyond what was necessary.”
