Italian Police are investigating after a British Holiday maker was raped by a gang of muggers while on holiday in Italy. The 44-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found in an extremely distressed state in a park early Sunday morning.
Initially it was thought she had just been the victim of a mugging but she later tearfully told cops she had been sexually assaulted by the gang.
The incident happened in the canal area of Milan which is usually an extremely busy tourist hub with its cafe’s and bars.
The woman was said to have been with a fellow British holiday maker who had left her earlier in the night to go back to their hotel. The Police are urgently seeking to speak with a group of North African youths who were caught on CCTV.
A Spokesperson for the Milan Police said :
We were called by a passerby who had seen the woman in a dishevelled state partially clothed in the early hours of the morning.
Initially it was thought she had been the victim of a mugging as she told officers her telephone had been stolen but she then told us she had been raped.
DNA samples have been taken and are being investigated. She was due to return to Britain the same day of the attack but her departure has been delayed.”
