Channel 4 News blames Brexit for CRASHING the network’s viewing figures!

The period that the British media and UK’s wider population has experienced following the 2016 Brexit referendum has been turbulent to say the least, Brexit has rarely been far from the headlines. In a startling claim, Channel 4 News has cited BREXIT as the main reason for a reduction in its viewing numbers.

Channel 4 has suggested that viewers were experiencing “Brexit fatigue”. However, this did not stop the network running with an ‘expose’ story claiming electoral misconduct involving known Brexit donor Aaron Banks and Nigel Farage. Mr Farage last week refused to attend a hearing in Brussels suggesting he has only been given 24 hour’s notice to attend this “kangaroo court”.

The publicly owned broadcaster has far from ignored the prospect of Britain’s expected withdrawal from the European Union, resulting in Nigel Farage blacklisting them from Brexit party events in the lead up to the recent EU elections.

Channel 4 has recently commissioned its yearly report into ongoings in 2018 at the network. It concluded a startling nine percent decrease in viewing figures from the previous year. It attributed its loss of views to the boredom of Brexit.

It should be stated that a large decrease came from a reduction in Channel 4 news viewings, the BBC have also experienced a similar decline.

Some have suggested this is as a result of the public moving away from the MSM due to mistrust. These people would cite findings such as the Edelman trust barometer in 2018 which suggested that “when looking at the bigger picture, Britain remains subdued with distrust”. Distrust of the mainstream media is deep-rooted and is unlikely to change in the near future.

In contrast to this Channel 4 will be encouraged by the findings that it’s All 4 platform viewings rose a whopping 26% as well as an increase in viewings on its YouTube channel during 2018.

With attention shifting slightly, even if only temporarily, away from Brexit towards the Tory leadership contest Channel 4’s hypothesis will be put to the test. Although many will argue that their decrease can be attributed to people across the UK getting their information and news in a way that we have never seen before.
