Channel 4 News chief claims public cant trust for “themselves what is true”

The public broadcaster Channel 4 has found itself in hot water today with the Conservative party following their decision to deny Michael Gove entry to last night’s climate change debate. As UNN does not align itself with any particular party our current affairs correspondent Oliver Down has been investigating far more sinister matters at Channel 4. Mr Down obtained footage of Dorothy Byrne, who is the present Head of News and Current Affairs at Channel 4 in which Ms Byrne told the Edinburgh tv festival earlier this year that “we should forget the idea that the public can judge for themselves what is true”. 

It is difficult to perceive this comment’s in any other way, other than that Ms Byrne and Channel 4 are simply doctoring news as the public in which they serve are incapable of being able to “judge for themselves what is true”. Ms Byrne has been in her job at Channel 4 since 2003. At UNN we are incredibly clear in labelling an article when it is based in opinion rather than fact as it is a basic ethic of journalism. Ms Byrne seems to be bragging about distorting news. 

In addition to this, Ms Byrne’s comments portray her as hugely out of touch the “public” as she describes it. Many will feel Ms Byrne’s comments are extremely arrogant and an insult to the intelligence of the “public”. In every other piece of investigative work Oliver Down has ever partaken in he has commented the parties involved for comment. However, on this occasion, Mr Down feels there can be no explanation for these comments. UNN poses the question to everyone reading this that once a state-owned broadcaster begins deciding with the “truth” is, how much longer can they maintain to receive taxpayer funds and therefore would it be appropriate to remove the licence of Channel 4 and others in the MSM?
