A child has died and four adults have been injured after a suspected gas explosion in Heysham, Lancashire.
Firefighters, police and ambulances were sent to Mallowdale Avenue in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Two houses collapsed and serious damage was done to a third property, Lancashire Police said.
A young child died as a result of the incident and the force said two men and two women had been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Lancashire Fire Brigade said: “We can now confirm that sadly a young child has died as a result of the incident. The family have been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this distressing time.
It has been reported that there has been an explosion at a property and firefighters are searching the collapsed property.”
The town is about 25 miles north-east of Blackpool.
Police said they were working with gas service engineers to make the area safe and they advised people to stay away.
