Embattled Prime Minister Theresa May is coming under increasing pressure over the handling of the Huawei/ Gavin Williamson affair. With losses in excess of 1000 council seats and a man heckling for her to go at the Welsh Tory Conference she showed strange decisiveness in sacking Gavin Williamson earlier this week. What has since transpired is that there was little or no evidence of him being the leak and rather he was sacked for other reasons.
Some have argued it was because he was a prominent Brexiteer and she wanted him out of the cabinet whilst others have speculated there was more than this than meets the eye. Now in a series of bombshell exclusives well respected news outlet UK Column have indicated that this was due to Mr Williamson knowing about the upcoming plans for an EU Army and also that Huawei are already involved in British infrastructure.
Gerrish wrote on Twitter: “Many believe Gavin is absolutely right. The deep secret is EU Defence Union and Gavin failed to drive the agenda. EU Defence Union which includes UK forces nucs defence industry & procurement is accelerating and no MP will speak out. @marksedwill ‘s deep state had to act for EU”
Mr Gerrish is referring to chief Civil Servant Sir Mark Sedwill who has been accused of being part of a ‘deep-state’ ploy to unseat Williamson. Sedwill is said to wield enormous power within the UK Government and was instrumental in taking the decision for the UK Government to wind down planning for a No Deal Brexit. He is accused by some of being part of a ‘deep-state cabal’ trying to undermine Brexit negotiations and introducing EU integration by stealth. It is a well known fact that Williamson did not see eye to eye with Sedwill and the Huawei affair was used to get Williamson removed from Government.
Political editor Nicholas Watt has said on BBC Newsnight: “Make no mistake, Gavin Williamson is on the war path. I spoke to a friend tonight who said he is thinking of delivering a speech on the level of Geoffrey Howe’s resignation speech which famously precipitated the downfall of Margaret Thatcher.”
It is set to be an interesting few days and Williams could prove pivotal in leading to the downfall of Theresa May.
