Royal Mail employees continue to foolishly blindly follow their union reps who are just wannabe politicians with a different title.
As both the reps and many members do not understand basic economics, they understandably want more money due to the cost of living crisis but do not properly understand how the crisis arrived at this situation.
At the time of lockdowns and the furlough scheme, many said they were “willing to make the sacrifice” to protect their loved ones. Well, this is the results of these actions, so I find it strange that now many are striking. They were willing to sacrifice, lockdown the economy, recklessly print money for the furlough scheme and continue to give further of our taxpayers money to fund the Ukraine war machine. So why are workers out striking??
Ultimately inflation will always come from Central Banks printing money. Until this stops, demanding raising wages, especially in the public sector industry will actually worsen the situation and cause money to further inflate.
Royal Mail, being one of the UK’s biggest employers, has not one but two big prominent unions within it; the Commination Workers Union (CWU – for postman and other uniformed staff) and the UK’s biggest union; Unite (for managerial staff). In this schedule of strikes [see photo attached] taken from a Facebook page, it is the CWU.
For Royal Mail employees, now a part shareholder company, the demand for a wage increase will raise the cost of postage which in a declining letter market will make more customers opt for email, text and social media alternatives. Additionally many will opt to choose now alternative delivery couriers who will continue to deliver parcels on the strike days and at a lower cost.
In the past, a profit positive for Royal Mail was that it had a monopoly on the parcel market meaning it had no other competition so did not worry about customers going to other competition. Although the negative to this was that unions could have great leverage to the one and only UK delivery service provider. Coupled with this is a declining letters service which Royal Mail are obligated to provide due to the Universal Service Obligation (USO) via an Act of Parliament. Many of Royal Mail’s competitor have recognised the letter market is a no profit venture so wisely choose to not partake.
However in terms of the parcel market nowadays, many are buying from Amazon, Boohoo and many other online shops. Royal Mail now face much parcel market competition to the point where it even requests it’s employees to work Sundays, traditionally the day off for the delivery side of the business, in order to compete with other couriers. The CWU do not properly understand the competitive market due to it’s old fashioned stale socialistic nature of the State providing the service. Due to this lack of understanding it recklessly gambles it’s members employment security.
To be frank, the CWU members are useful idiots to big union barons who are apart of the regressive and destructive WEF-like agenda narratives often using the platforms of big money funded organisations such as XR, BLM, LGBTQ and newly formed ‘Don’t Pay UK’ and further promoting the Ukraine conflict by giving more workers taxpayer money to it. Many of these unions, including the CWU, previously supported lockdowns which were ironically the greatest robbery of not only civil rights but worker’s rights, supported the furlough scheme which caused printing of money thus greatly accelerating inflation and now has resulted in a cost of living crisis due to a loss of purchasing power from primarily working class people.
The unions have either a great lack of understanding of basic cause & effect, or if they do understand the former, choose to be dishonest to their members opting to choose an easy but untrue narrative of “the Tories did it” or “it’s Putin”, where in fact the economy-killing lockdowns where voted for in the legislature from ALL parliamentary parties, including Labour where they wanted harsher and more anti worker rights tyrannical lockdowns.
A message to all union members – Stop allowing your unions, which are taking direction and reading the same narrative script from all big multi national corporations and world governments. They are taking you down a garden path where the final destination is the job centre.
