It has emerged that a doctor has been charged and will appear in court for the attempted murder of a fellow “highly-respected” plastic surgeon after a man was stabbed in his own home. Graeme Perks who is 65 was stabbed in the abdomen and chest at his home in Nottinghamshire on Thursday las week.
In addition to the charge of attempted murder, Jonathan Peter Brooks has also been charged with three counts of attempted arson with intent to endanger life. UNN’s Oliver Down understands that Brooks will appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court for a plea hearing.
Police have said that Mr Perks is currently in a serious but stable condition in hospital police. The Guardian are reporting that Perks was charged on Sunday, remanded in custody ,and will appear in court on Monday.
The police have said that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack. The victim, Perks has been described as “one of the most highly regarded and respected surgeons in the profession”. Both the victim and alleged offender were colleagues at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Police have said that Mr Perks initially had gone to investigate the sound of breaking glass at about 04:15 GMT early on Thursday, after he feared an intruder had smashed their way into the house. The police believe it was at this point when Mr Perks was stabbed, and the suspect ran off. Mr Perks has worked in London, Sheffield, Newcastle and Melbourne, Australia, but has worked in Nottingham since returning to the UK in the mid 1990’s.
