Dominic Raab refuses to fully rule out a ‘lockdown for the unvaccinated’

Dominic Raab Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor has refused on Talk Radio to fully rule out a lockdown for those who have not taken the Covid-19 jab.

Julia Hartley-Brewer asked Rabb: “Can you guarantee to me, that Britain will never have a lockdown for people who are unvaccinated.”

In response, Rabb said: “What I can tell you is guarantees are very difficult to give in the terms you describe.”

Julia quizzed: “Are they?”

Mr Rabb continued: “Well of course because your dealing with a flued situation, what I can tell you with confidence is that the vaccine rollout has been exceptionally successful; the booster program is not being rolled out at pace as a result of which we are confident in plan A and whilst we have got a plan B there, we talk about it before. Erm, we are confident we are sticking with plan A.”

Hartley-Brewer responded: “I don’t understand why in a fluent situation you can’t give a guarantee that this country will never have a law where we lockdown the freedoms of people because they have chosen not to get medical treatment but allowing other people to go about their daily business.

“I would have thought that was in a modern liberal democracy with the history that we have in this country, a really easy guarantee to give?”

Rabb responded saying: “We are not going to be doing anything in the ‘colourful’ way you describe, but we do have a plan B which is in the locker in case.”

Hartley-Brewer pushed further asking: “And does plan B still include vaccine passports even though many of the countries in Europe currently experiencing a massive spike in cases, are countries that have long had a vaccine passport?

“So we are quite clear that vaccine passports don’t prevent the Covid virus spreading, so is plan B still including vaccine passports?”

Rab replied saying: “Plan B is as it was set out before, but the crystal clear message I want your listeners to understand is we are not looking to plan B because plan A is working so I hope that gives you confidence and reassurance that actually we have not just got a control and a grip over the pandemic but also the freedoms, the economic freedoms, the social freedoms that we have had as we come out of lockdown will stay.”

Julia responded: “I would certainly like to hear more guarantees on that, I am encouraged but it would be very nice if we were told, no more lockdowns, there are no vaccine passports we are going to live freely and we are going to learn to live with this virus as we have been told for the last 19 months we need to do.”
