ERG’s Steve Baker slams Nigel Farage as war of words erupts

The Chairman of the European Research Group (ERG) Steve Baker has accused Nigel Farage of being “weak and indecisive” after he revealed that the Brexit Party would be contesting seats, with more than 600 candidates ready for the upcoming election.

Speaking with the Tory supporting Daily Telegraph Steve Baker accused Mr Farage of trying to stop Brexit altogether:

“Nigel Farage’s critique [of the Brexit deal] is wrong. Whilst there are some compromises people like me have to swallow, Boris’s deal is a path to a great future.

But we will not succeed if Nigel Farage creates a hung parliament by dogmatically pursuing purity.

That’s the irony of Nigel Farage. He risks being the man who hands Boris a weak and indecisive Parliament, and bringing about, therefore, his own worst fears.”

Previously Baker had been in full agreement with Mr Farage’s views on Brexit, but now fears he risks derailing any Brexit.

Going further, Mr Baker even criticised Mr Farage’s decision not to stand for a seat of his own:

If Mr Farage was “serious about getting us out of the EU he would stand for Parliament. I am flabbergasted he is not standing”.

Nigel Farage has hit backing accusing the ERG of duplicity and stating Boris’s withdrawal deal is merely a rehash of Theresa May’s deal and Brexit in name only.
