On Wednesday Morning Lance Forman, an East London based Jewish businessman was informed by his office staff that a 30-foot swastika had been painted on his business which Mr Forman believes was an anti- semitic attack. Mr Forman’s Father survived the Holocaust and this has seen an outpouring of anger on social media. Mr Forman is also standing as a candidate for The Brexit Party in the upcoming EU elections.

The H Forman & Son factory in Hackney Wick has been a London institution since 1905 and their website proudly states:

In 1905 Lance Forman’s great-grandfather, Aaron ‘Harry’ Forman set up the family business with his son, Louis, in London’s East End. A Russian émigré with a family to provide for, Harry saw potential in the curing of fresh Scottish salmon, the king of fish.

The father and son entrepreneurs convinced London’s foremost culinary establishments that smoked Scottish salmon was a gourmet delicacy. Soon Forman’s clientele included Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges, Harrods, the Ivy and Mirabelle.

A century later H. Forman & Son remains a family concern, the last of the original London smokehouses. Remaining faithful to principles established in 1905 – the freshest salmon, a little salt, just the right amount of oak smoke – Lance Forman is upholding traditional values and skills that would otherwise have died out long ago

Now we have spoken exclusively to Mr Forman over the issue and what appears to be Sadiq Khan’s lack of interest in this attack:

How has this disgraceful attack affected you, your family and your business?

My family were shocked and disgusted. This was pretty close to home with my 85 year old father being a holocaust survivor. For me, it has just strengthened my resolve. I have been touched at the thousands upon thousands of warm messages of support and comfort.

Have the Police indicated who they think might be behind this and why you and your business were specifically targeted?

We have actually informed the police. There have been informants. We believe we were targeted by angry leftists because of my support for Brexit. The informant seemed horrified that the attack came across as anti-semitic and that it is now the attackers that look like the racists.

We note that Sadiq Khan has not been in touch with you around this attack and you have called this out on Twitter, any thoughts on why that may be the case?

No idea. This might be the largest ever swastika daubed on building ever in London. Given the rise in hate crime it would have been nice to hear from him.

Whilst this attack has received some press coverage it has not gained massive media attention or outrage, again why do you think that may be the case?

Perhaps the media think it is a Brexit related hate crime rather than an anti-Semitic attack. Quite frankly either are hateful. Just because you disagree with someone about a customs union or single market, does not make you a Nazi and my family knows from first hand experience what Nazism really is.

We have reached out to the Mayor Of London’s Press Team both over the phone and via e-mail and as of yet we have not received a response.

On Mayor Khan’s Twitter feed he has posted a number of Tweets recently in connection with LQBTQI issues, environmental issues as well as the fact he needs Police Protection. There is no mention of this sickening anti-semitic attack in the heart of London and as Mr Forman alluded to this may be the largest Swastika drawn on a building in London. The silence from both Mayor Khan on this as well as that of the wider media is telling.
