EXCLUSIVE: Worcester County Council has resettled 100 Syrian refugees

UNN’s Current affairs correspondent Oliver Down has been responding to a tip-off that UNN received specifically regarding Worcestershire County Council taking in orphans from the Middle East. This comes despite massive cuts to funding within the Council amounting to around 10% over the last few years.

The source told UNN exclusively that the council is “scouring various countries in the Middle East, Asia and Africa for approx. 100-200 orphans to bring to the UK over the next 5 years.” As a result of this information, Oliver Down has been digging into this story and has contacted many councillors in the search for clarity on this story. Oliver Down eventually obtained a phone call with a Worcester city Councilor, Catherine Hepple, who confirmed to Oliver Down that “Worcestershire County Council has resettled 100 Syrian refugees between June 2016 and August 2019.”

Worcester County Council claims that this scheme is funded wholly by the central government and that every single local authority was invited to take part and they believe most local councils do take part. During a period when the Conservative government had promised to reduce immigration down to the tens of thousands this news may surprise and even anger those concerned with the current levels of immigration. Given the UK is currently involved in a general election, this news may be highly embarrassing for a Conservative party that claims to be tough on immigration. We also continue to see migrants coming into the UK across the Channel and also in the back of lorries with some estimating this amounts to hundreds of thousands if not millions of illegal migrants entering the UK each year.

UNN’s source had claimed claims “there are a number of other county councils around the UK who are involved in this ‘Govt-sponsored scheme’“ and this was cooperated by Worcestershire County Council as Oliver Down was told that every single local authority in the UK was invited to take part in this scheme. UNN’s Oliver Down is continuing to investigate these claims to the fullest degree and will now begin contacting other councils as well as investigating with national government and the home office. What we haven’t been able to ascertain is the ages of those involved or if they are orphans. There have been numerous cases where adults have pretended to be child refugees when in fact they are in their mid-20s. In one incident a 23 year old Syrian was attending School much to the disgust of parents. It appears Worcester and many other Council’s are not open around the full facts about resettling ‘orphaned children’.
