Opinion: Extinction Rebellion are taking it too far and the Country is sick of it

Disorder erupted this morning on the London Underground as a result of the extinction rebellion protests. The scenes captured yesterday morning via mobile phone appear to show a number of commuters pulling protestors down who were on the top of a train. Many feel that these actions saw the rising of people are revolting against the anarchists that have finally run out of patience with a group that has caused havoc for the last 2 weeks. It has been dubbed by Spiked a “Rebellion against Extinction Rebellion”.

The XR elitists have set about disrupting every aspect of Londoner’s lives. The group have stopped flights, clogged up the roads forcing people to walk to life-saving hospital appointments, they’ve squatted in Smithfield meat market and Billingsgate fish market depriving working-class market traders of earning a perfectly legal living. Today XR’s snobbish self-righteous went too far, today they attempted another hostile takeover of the largely electric public-transport system used by millions of people on a daily basis.

Extinction Rebellion protesters

In one video a commuter can be heard asking about people who have hospital appointments. The arrogant XR protestor replies ‘The point is…’. This only served to ramp up tensions. One protestor glued herself to an electric train. An announcement was read over the tannoy that attributed delays to the protests. Back in Canning Town, the sight of one of the protesters kicking at the commuters to prevent them from reaching him could not have epitomised the attitudes any more clearly.

Today’s rebellion against Extinction Rebellion has caused much talk across Britain, many are saying that XR should change tactics. To call these tactics implies it isn’t simply the elitist inconveniencing of ordinary people using the mask of a serious national issue. Today the working-class people of London spoke, they rejected XR and its snobbery, its anti-humanism, and its demands for crippling austerity.
