A story has emerged on Monday that a Falklands war veteran has been questioned by two police officers in his home following a light-hearted comment relating to Brexit. Tony McNally, a decorated veteran, of Barrow-in-Furness who is 57, was visited by Cumbria Constabulary police force following a tweet which joked ‘Maybe it’s time for a military coup to sort Brexit out’.
Mr McNally, a father of two who served in Northern Ireland and the Falklands to boot further clarified ‘I couldn’t start a military coup.’ Following the news of inactivity in relation to the grooming gang in Rochdale still not being deported many have questioned the police’s use of resources on such an issue.
Tony McNally has been shocked by the event, he said: “It was a waste of police time, heavy-handed and totally unnecessary”.
In addition to the convicted Rochdale paedophiles, Scotland Yard confirmed on Monday that Jo Brand will not face any further action over gag relating to throwing ‘battery acid’ over right-wing politicians.
Mr McNally has also been aggrieved by this saying ‘She won’t be spoken to by police about what she said because it’s under the guise of comedy.’
Many have been highly critical of the police response to this incident including Nick Ferrari on the LBC weekday breakfast show. Mr Ferrari reported that Mr McNally made the comment on Twitter after reading that a General had warned a future Labour government under Jeremy Corbyn could face an army mutiny if he was to become Prime Minister.
Mr McNally has said that the officer that came to visit warned him over future posts and mentioned the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox before the 2016 Brexit referendum. He said finally ‘I’m not the enemy here. I served my country and I’m proud of it.’ The veteran deleted the tweet after receiving online abuse from Twitter users.
