Farage warns Boris the Tory rebellion is far from finished “this is NOT the end!”

It has been revealed on the Nigel Farage Show on LBC that the Prime Minister’s fears of a major rebellion over his Huawei policy may have to continue as the rebels admit that the fight is not yet over.

Following the government’s move to grant the Chinese tech firm Huawei access to Britain’s 5G network rows has erupted in Parliament bringing politicians from all sides of the House together.

Conservative rebels yesterday introduced an amendment to a piece of legislation to defeat the government, despite the amendment currently failing at the first hurdle one of the MPs behind the revolt has reviled to Nigel Farage that the fight is not over.

Robert William Henry Seely MBE, MP for the Isle of Wight

Bob Seely MBE, the MP for the Isle of Wight since June 2017, told Mr Farage: “The amendment wasn’t in the perfect place because it was a slightly random telecommunications bill.

“But we wanted to test the argument in Parliament about Huawei and potentially force a vote, which we ended up doing because we didn’t think the Government moved enough.

“It was really a device by which we could measure how concerned Conservative MPs were.

“I was amazed to see that I think 36 have rebelled in some form against the Government, either abstaining or voting against.

“This is a very surprising number and I did not expect frankly more than a dozen.”

Mr Farage then questioned saying: “So this is not the end of the rebellion tho is it?”

Mr Seely responded saying “No no no, absolutely not this was to test the water for rebellion.

“The big issue comes up this summer where you have the telecom security bill.

“There’ll be a lot of good stuff in the telecom security bill, Nigel, but there will also be a 35 percent cap on high-risk vendors.”

He finished by adding: “What we want is no high-risk vendors in a critical national infrastructure because it’s a high risk and we don’t want to take that risk.

“But we’d like Government to announce a timetable for getting that kit out.

“I don’t think by the end of 2022 is realistic, some colleagues want it.”
