British government FURIOUS with misinformation campaign conducted by CCP

Reports doing the rounds on Monday morning are suggesting that the British government are furious over the coronavirus misinformation campaign conducted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). This has led to calls from leading powers in Mr Johnson’s government to review Britain’s relationship with China at the end of this pandemic.  

A source has told the Daily Mail that the “anger goes right to the top” of 10 Downing Street — the Prime Minister’s official residence over the Chinese Communist Party’s mishandling of the coronavirus crisis. The source says “there is a disgusting disinformation campaign going on and it is unacceptable. They [the Chinese regime] know they have got this badly wrong and rather than owning it they are spreading lies.” The Daily Mail is also reporting that Boris Johnson’s scientific advisors have told him that it is likely that China is also lying about the number of coronavirus cases in the country, downplaying the figures “by a factor of 15 to 40 times”.

Though any re-evaluation of the relationship with China has been put off until after the pandemic calms down, a senior official told the newspaper: “It is going to be back to the diplomatic drawing board after this. Rethink is an understatement”. In addition to this UNN’s Oliver Down has unearthed a tweet by the ‘Global Times’ from 1st of January this year which states: “Police in Central China’s Wuhan arrested 8 people spreading rumours about a local outbreak of unidentifiable #pneumonia. Previous online posts said it was SARS”. 

This revaluation has to contain a debate on Boris Johnson’s decision to allow Huawei access into Britain’s 5G infrastructure. Many had concerns about this decision prior to the coronavirus outbreak, the current situation is unlikely to have softened attitudes towards the Chinese tech firm. The former Conservative Party leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith has said “for too long, nations have lamely kowtowed to China in the desperate hope of winning trade deals. Once we get clear of this terrible pandemic, it is imperative that we all rethink that relationship and put it on a much more balanced and honest basis”.
