GRETA Thunberg the prophet of climate change rode into Bristol on Friday. Her self-appointed mission is to save the world. Thousands of children skipped school to grab a glimpse of the famous 17-year-old. In all probability. Many of the banners lauded Greta as their leader and saint. Not many of those present would have been aware of another messiah who once turned up in Bristol with the aim of saving the world.
James Nayler was a Quaker leader who was born in Wakefield. In 1656 he was convinced that he was a reincarnation of Christ. As a result of this, he mounted a horse and, with his disciples, re-enacted Christ’s entry into Jerusalem by riding into the beautiful city of Bristol. Like Greta, Nayler embarked on Bristol with a considerable track record. He had already reportedly performed at least one miracle. A woman in his presence had fallen ill and died. She was then revived by Nayler who cried over her: ‘Tabitha, I say unto thee, arise!’ His followers thought he has brought her back from the dead, Lazarus-style.
Greta’s visitation to Bristol was lapped up by the MSM and has dominated the airwaves ever since. Greta roared that she “will not be silenced when the world is on fire’ and reminded people that our “leaders behave like children”. In contrast to this poor old James Nayler suffered a trial before parliament before he was found guilty of blasphemy. His punishment was a red-hot iron through his tongue and two years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
UNN in no way suggests that Greta should receive such punishment. Rather that she was not the first crusader and she will likely not be the last.
