Halted Covid-19 Vaccine Trials resume as South Korean officials deny links between flu shots and deaths

The news surrounding vaccines just keeps on coming.

In my previous article I reported on the halting of the Astra Zeneca Covid-19 Vaccine trial due to the death of a volunteer in Brazil and also the pausing of the Johnson & Johnson trial due to an “unexplained illness”.

We now have an update from the FDA they have authorised the restart of both the Astra Zeneca and Johnson & Johnson trials.

The Regulator stated testing of the Astra Zeneca Vaccine would continue even after the death of a volunteer but provided no further details citing medical confidentiality.  However, a news report from O Globo – a Brazilian newspaper – stated the volunteer that died was in the control group and given a placebo.

The Eli Lilly trial of its monoclonal antibody treatment had also been paused due to a potential safety concern.

They will not be resuming their antibody trial as they state the drug was unlikely to help advanced cases.

Now let’s move on to a story currently hitting the headlines in South Korea.

Flu vaccine deaths: South Korea scrambles to control panic, stating any link is ‘coincidental’

South Korean officials are scrambling to contain widespread public panic sparked by news reports of deaths thought to be linked to influenza vaccines, with President Moon Jae-in urging calm and saying any link was merely coincidental.

Over the past 2 weeks, 59 post-vaccination deaths have been reported, mostly involving people in their 60s or older with pre-existing health conditions.

Alarmist news headlines since the first death was reported on October 16 have deterred many people from getting vaccinated, with the Korea Medical Association recommending a temporary suspension of the flu shots.

Investigations and autopsies of 46 of the cases have so far found little evidence that the deaths were associated with the vaccine injections, authorities said the remaining 13 deaths have not yet been examined.

President Moon this week stated “It has been confirmed that the deaths were not directly linked to flu vaccinations.”  He appealed to members of the public to “put trust in the conclusions” reached by health authorities and experts, calling for the expansion of the flu vaccination programme to avoid a “Twindemic” of the flu and covid-19 this winter.

Singapore have temporarily halted the use of 2 flu vaccines. Although no deaths associated with influenza vaccination have been reported, the Health Ministry said the decision to halt the use of SKYCellflu Quadrivalent and VaxigripTetra was precautionary following the South Korean cases.

In Taiwan, authorities also had to calm fears after a man in Taichung was hospitalised and fell into a coma about 10 days after receiving a flu vaccine. He was later diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder and health officials said it was unlikely that it was caused by the vaccine.  (Interestingly this is the same type of injury that halted the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine trial).

Professor Lee Hoan-jong stated I agree with the government’s view that the deaths and vaccination are just coincidental.

Moon’s statement came as hospital workers reported a drop in the number of people coming in for vaccinations.

Health experts said the public panic was also sparked by news headlines last month that 480,000 doses of flu vaccines were momentarily exposed to room temperature. The vaccines were all recalled but this lapse heightened distrust in vaccines.

Lee Jae-Gab at Hallym University Medical Center said the increased attention about flu vaccines led to more reports of post-vaccination deaths which would have gone unreported at other times.

The panic over vaccines is unprecedented in South Korea, where public awareness for the need for vaccinations is high, with 70% of citizens receiving yearly flu vaccines.

The anti-vaccination movement is largely ignored in this country, especially after a herbalist and prominent anti-vaxxer was convicted for breaching medical laws, had her licence cancelled, and received a suspended jail sentence and a US$26,000 fine in 2019.

Analysis

The deeper I delve into these “incidents” the more interesting it becomes.

  • Every “incident” has turned out not to be linked to the vaccines resulting in the trials resuming within days.
  • The decision to halt and resume trials is made by the Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) made up of “independent experts”, who remain anonymous allegedly to avoid interference from those with political or vested interests in the outcome of the trials. (However, I would suggest this anonymity places them outside the realms of public scrutiny – and who commissions them)?.
  • Also of concern is that it is stated:- “The decisions that they (the DSMB) make can be difficult decisions, since they must evaluate incomplete data sets, and it is hard to draw definitive conclusions from limited data.” (Fills you with confidence doesn’t it!).   https://www.avac.org/data-safety-monitoring-boards
  • Why is no one mentioning Influenza vaccination and respiratory virus interference?

We are being urged to put our faith and trust in the “experts” but then the public see comments being made such as that from Lee Jae-Gab at Hallym.

“The increased attention about flu vaccines led to more reports of post-vaccination deaths which would have gone unreported at other times.”

In a time when vaccines are being pushed so aggressively yet everything surrounding the “vaccine community” remains shrouded in secrecy, then couple this with the increasing censorship of alternative opinion or reasoned questioning – including from within the medical and scientific professions – ask yourself is it any wonder that globally vaccine scepticism is on the rise?

I would ask just 1 question:-

Is it really “far right conspiracy theory” to question the safety of vaccines or is it “just right”?

Clearly that is for you to decide.
