HAVE THEY IGNORED HER CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES OF PROMOTING PEACE, NOT WAR ?
The sad death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 2nd was announced on Thursday
8th September 2002, after the longest reign of any Monarch in British or
indeed world history.
There has been an outpouring of grief and sympathy at her passing, and this
has been expressed by so many people in so many different ways since then.
As a political commentator, I made gave my own condolences in a live

Since then, the plans for the Assession of King Charles 3rd proceeded, as
well as a period of Royal and national mourning.
As part of this, the Parliamentary political process has been put on hold
until after the State funeral on Monday 19th September 2022.
As a mark of respect, the political fray between parties and indeed anyone,
has also been paused until after the funeral.
Most people consider this is an appropriate thing to do.
In a normal family funeral, any tensions are put to one side in order to
give dignity to the death of the deceased person involved.
With an important national funeral, especially that of a long reigning
Monarch, the same applies, but obviously in a national and even
international manner.
It does not matter what individuals’ opinions are of the Monarch, the
institution itself or indeed other members of the Royal Family, it is not a
time to air such opinions, it is time to honour a period of mourning.
It would be seen to be disrespectful to divert from such a valued notion,
and therefore no politician or individual should seek to obtain advantage,
political or otherwise, during a period of mourning.
However, in Scotland at St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, some were not
impressed with Nicola Sturgeon’s delivery of a lesson, with her seeming to
want to make political capital out of the sombre occasion.
On a broader scale, the new UK Prime Minister, Liz Truss’s office, insisted
that she accompany the new King Charles 3rd on his mourning tour of the four
nations of the United Kingdom, when this was something which was
acknowledged to be unnecessary. It therefore appeared to be an attempt to
curry favour with the public on the back of sympathy for the late Queen.
Her Majesty had built up respect and admiration as the Sovereign, as well as
her for own particular type of character, over a reign of over 70 years. It
takes a lot to come anywhere near equalling that, and someone who has become
Prime Minister with just over 80,000 votes from her own political party, has
a long way to go to even reach one year of earned respect and trust.
In the lead up to and during family funerals a level of decorum is rightly
expected. This applies equally with the funeral of the Monarch and Head of
State. Politicians in particular should act with decorum and know their
place. The nation expects them to set an example, not to attempt to take any
of the sympathy and praise, because that should be solely for the Monarch.
The nation also wants to celebrate 70 years of national history which has
been a big part of many people’s lives, and that is between them and their
former Monarch, no one else except the Royal Family, for whom there is much
sympathy.
Nor should the funeral be used in an attempt by the government to
propagandise their policies on any political issue.
Yet the government have made it clear who they want and don’t want to be
invited to the Queen’s funeral.
It is also a State funeral as well as a Royal funeral, but to politicise who
can and cannot attend, is unseemly, and not in keeping with the Christian
beliefs of Her Majesty.
It has been announced that Russia, Belarus, Venezuela, Myanmar, Syria and
Afghanistan will not be invited.
Also, that with regard to Iran, Nicaragua and North Korea, it has been
decided just to invite their Ambassadors.
Yet a host of world leaders and Ambassadors of countries with appalling
human rights records and other faults, are being invited.
So the State funeral is echoing the foreign policy of the new Prime
Minister, rather than giving the opportunity for world leaders generally to
formally pay their respects.
This funeral is being used by the government as a weapon in the
psychological aspect of their dubious proxy war in Ukraine, which has never
had the consent of the British people.
It is intended to be disrespectful to Russia, and is in fact rude, a snub,
and undiplomatic. It is distasteful and serves no productive purpose. This
sort of conduct was never in the Queen’s makeup, but it is being done in her
name, and that is wrong.
In contrast, Ukraine have been invited. So that means whatever the President
Zelensky government have done in their conduct of this conflict is deemed
acceptable, but whatever the President Putin government have done in their
conduct of the conflict is somehow not acceptable. It is nothing short of
one- sided double standards.
If ever evidence was needed that the government has no interest in promoting
peace between Russia and Ukraine, it is provided by the spiteful approach of
the government in using the State funeral for political purposes.
There have been a number of Royal family funerals since that of King George
V on 15th February 1952.
However, at that funeral the Ambassador of the Soviet Union as well as the
President of communist Yugoslavia, were invited to attend.
This was at time of global tensions, and NATO had been formed in 1949. In
fact what was termed the “Cold War” lasted from 12th March 1947 to 26th
December 1961.
Queen Elizabeth 2nd was Monarch for the bulk of this period.
However, there is much history with Russian and UK relations going back many
years, including Royal connections with the Tsarist Romanov Royal Family,
and being Allies in the 1st and 2nd World Wars. It is important to mention
the following statement which has been made by Russia:
‘Profoundly immoral’ for Russia not to be invited to Queen’s funeral –
Kremlin
The Russian foreign ministry has reacted to news the country was not invited
to send a delegate to the Queen’s funeral on Monday.
It said the decision was “profoundly immoral”, adding: “We view this British
attempt to use a national tragedy that has touched the hearts of millions of
people around the world for geopolitical purposes to settle scores with our
country during the days of mourning as profoundly immoral.
“This is especially blasphemous to the memory of Elizabeth II, who is known
to have served during World War II in the territorial defence ranks of the
British Armed Forces fighting the Nazis and their Ukrainian collaborators
Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevich.
“Now the British elites are on their side. And Moscow remembers and
continues to honour the memory of all veterans who contributed to the
Victory.
“The unifying image of Queen Elizabeth II, who has not interfered with
politics as a matter of principle during her reign, has not become an
obstacle to London’s dissenting attacks, which are subject to accomplishing
their own conjectural objectives.”
Her Majesty the Queen invited the Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev to
visit her in 1989 and accepted an invitation to visit Russia, which took
place when Her Majesty and Prince Phillip had an official State visit there
between 17th and 20th October 1994, being hosted by President Yeltsin.
Prior to that, the then Prince Charles, visited Russia for four days on May
16th, and again on July 13th for three days in 2003.
Princess Anne visited Russia officially in 1990 ( then Soviet Union), 2000,
2014 and 2016.
Prince Andrew visited Russia officially on 27th May 1998 for a week long
tour, which included some other Eastern European countries.
President Putin was invited to the UK on 24th June 2003 and met the Queen
and Duke of Edinburgh, politicians and others.
The then Prime Minister, Tony Blair, was also very involved with this, his
office stating at the time: ” the best way to get a response is through
engagement, not isolation.”
It is ironic that the current government is clearly following the opposite
policy in relation to Russia, that of isolation, rather than engagement.
This is opposite to the Christian beliefs of the late Monarch.
Throughout her life, she had been one who promoted love, peace and harmony
between different peoples, beliefs and doctrines.
There are many examples of this and how she engaged this example in bringing
about peace and harmony at home and abroad.
Her Christian beliefs were very much shown when she wrote a forward in the
book published in 2016: “The Servant Queen and the King She Serves.”
She said, in an exert from her 2014 Christmas day message to the nation:
“For me, the life of Christ, the Prince of Peace, whose birth we celebrate
today, is an inspiration and an anchor in my life.
A role model of reconciliation and forgiveness, he stretched out his hands
in love, acceptance and healing.
Christ’s example has taught me to seek and respect and value all people of
whatever faith or none.”
The Queen also said this:
“The work for peace is never ending. Christ said “Blessed are the
peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.””
It seems then, that the government is not honouring the inspiration and
faith of Queen Elizabeth 2nd, by their political control of her funeral
guest list.
This only shows that the Cabinet is very short of people who truly
understand and respect Jesus Christ’s teachings.
It undoes all the many years of hard work by Queen Elizabeth 2nd and other
members of the Royal Family to improve relations with Russia, for the
current government to take such backward steps.
Apart from not inviting Christian Russia, which has freedom of religious
worship, the government have also not invited Syria, a government which is
all faith and protects Christians.
There is not much logic in the government’s invitation list, and there is
certainly no Christian logic in it either .
It is never too late for the government to change from being a promoter of
war to being a neutral promoter of peace.
The conflict in Ukraine has not only cost the UK taxpayers £5 billion in
arms and aid, it has cost upwards of £170 billion in more borrowing to fund
energy costs, not including the rise in the costs of food, rising inflation,
interest rates and looming recession.
