It has emerged that the Greek husband of Caroline Crouch has now confessed to Greek police that he killed his wife. He has admitted to killing Caroline Crouch in front of their baby after she threatened to leave him.
Initially, Babis Anagnostopoulos had initially told police that burglars broke into the couple’s family home near Athens in the early hours of May 11. Babis stated that the burglars tied him and his wife up before threatening their infant daughter with a gun. Babis then stated that the burglars strangled Caroline to death as well as fleeing with £10,000 in cash in a suitcase case.
However, Greek police have now confirmed that Babis has confessed to stuffing cloth into Caroline’s mouth and then smothering her to death before staging the robbery. This cover up saw Babis drown the family dog and hang its body from a stair banister.
However, Babis has now told police: ‘That night we were fighting early. At one point she threw the child in the crib and told me to leave the house. She pushed me and punched me. I lost my temper, I suffocated her with the pillow. Τhen I made up the robbery’.
Greek police said in a statement: ‘Investigation of the homicide of a 20-year-old native (or resident) that took place on May 11, 2021 in Glyka Nera. The perpetrator is her 33-year-old husband, who confessed to his act’.
This confession comes less than five weeks after Babis led mourners at his wife’s funeral where he read a eulogy while standing over her grave. A friend of Caroline Crouch has said that Babis was a jealous and controlling husband and Caroline was deeply unhappy. The friend said: ‘She could not have the time she wanted with her friends, and she was constantly expressing her complaints about his behaviour’.
