Breaking news, the Home Secretary Priti Patel MP is going to tell the police that they need to do their job. Specifically, they need to start clearing these lunatics off our motorways and main roads who think it is acceptable to stop the flow of traffic in pursuit of insulating homes in Britain. Apart from the fact that these folk are making a nuisance of themselves, who knew that there was an insulation emergency? This really does seem like proposing a solution to a problem that may not exist. Of course, some houses are poorly insulated, and others are not insulated at all. Some may even be over-insulated. In our private house which was already insulated, Hull City Council came and insulated it again so it seems there may be plenty insulation to go round.
But insulation is not the issue here. The issue is political; ‘class war by other means’ as described in spiked online by Tom Slater. And in the pursuit of a political aim, anything goes including preventing someone from going to visit their sick mother and even preventing an ambulance from getting through. Paramedics had to help the public—while the police were still conspicuous by their absence—to drag people out of the way this week. And these blighters, who won’t be happy until we are all wiping our bottoms with sticks, just went back on to the road to continue blocking the way. Chief eco-idiot Roger Hallam even made the astonishing claim that he would block an ambulance on a 999 call if it helped his cause.
And there we have it. Utter madness. But, while there have been outbursts of frustration with these climate fantasists, I am surprised at how muted and sparse these have been. Which raises the question ‘why?’ The answer is that we have become inured as a country to taking extraordinary measures to tackle a non-issue. We have had over 18 months of preventing people from getting to hospital due to the emergency powers which the government granted itself under the guise of fighting the coronavirus. We have been terrified into submission by false stories about the numbers of people likely to die of COVID-19; therefore, all measures necessary allegedly had to be and were taken to fight the virus and protect the NHS. This included effectively closing the NHS to all but the COVID infected. The British government has created the very conditions whereby people largely tolerate mentally unbalanced narcissists such as Insulate Britain.
I fear, if the police do not ‘up their game’ regarding the Insulate Britain protesters that someone will be seriously injured or killed. And it may be one of the protesters. Why do the police not try some of the draconian action they took against the lockdown protesters? Where is the TSG when you need it? But I fear even more, as Laura Dodsworth explained recently, that we may well be being nudged towards accepting more of the unacceptable. After all what is one more death if an ambulance cannot get through if there is another emergency; even a false one?
