More migrants have entered the UK illegally this year than in 2019 already

In 2020, more migrants have illegally entered the United Kingdom already just six months into the year as opposed to the entire year of 2019.

So far this year, 1,929 migrants have reached the UK crossing via the English Channel illegal, this in comparison with the 1,890 people who illegally crossed for the whole of 2019.

One boat used by smugglers to ferry people across the busy shipping lane was thought to be 30ft long and carrying as many as 60 people.

A Home Office source has said that the vessel was spotted just off the French coastline, but was guided by the French Navy all the way into British waters.

“British officials are raising this as a matter of urgency with the French government. The Home Secretary is not impressed,” said the source.

Nigel Farage has accused the government of not addressing the problem quickly, and warned that the numbers will only grow if they fail to act on the issue accordingly.

In an interview with the Telegraph, the Brexit Party leader said: “If the UK does not act there will be an invasion of people this summer, and there are likely to be many casualties,

“In order to deter people, there is only one thing the government can do. There needs to be a clear message that anyone who comes by this route will not be allowed to stay.”

The former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott also warned of the dangers of mass illegal immigration in an article in the Telegraph he wrote: “As long as “to arrive is to remain”, people smugglers will have a business model and those countries that lack the will to say “no” are at risk of peaceful invasion.

“This is the prospect that faces Britain, if swift action is not taken to stop people coming illegally by boat.”

Mr Abbott faced a similar issue when he was Prime Minister of Australia in 2013 he took a hardline stance against illegal immigration, turning boats back around and leaving them with just enough fuel to make it back to Indonesia.
